WIPP Announces ChallengeHER
Thursday, May 2, 2013
WIPP, partnered with the U.S Small Business Administration (SBA) and American Express OPEN, is proud to officially announce ChallengeHER, a new initiative designed to strengthen and promote the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract Program.
ChallengeHER will offer events and workshops and access to an online curriculum, mentoring opportunities and government buyers with a goal to provide women entrepreneurs with knowledge and connections to help them successfully compete in the government marketplace. We hope this endeavor will enable more women business owners to take advantage of contracting opportunities so they can strengthen their businesses and help propel the success of the WOSB program.
April 23rd, we launched ChallengeHER at a luncheon that included Marie Johns, Deputy Administrator of the SBA, who announced the initiative and our partnership, and praised WIPP for our continued leadership. Our audience boasted over 250 women business owners, political representatives and members of the media. Notably, we received coverage in The Washington Post.
To demonstrate the level of support we have in moving this initiative forward, during last week’s House Small Business Committee hearing on the Small Business Administration's FY2014 Appropriations Request, Administrator Mills was asked about the current status of the Women Owned Small Business Procurement Program and the status of the implementation of the removal of the dollar award caps as required by the FY2013 National Defense Authorization Act. During her response, speaking to SBA's commitment to support women owned small businesses contract with the federal government, Administrator Mills announced that the SBA had launched a new partnership called ChallengeHER.
Finally, WIPP was represented at last week’s Annual Procurement Conference (formerly the OSDBU conference). We estimate that nearly 2500 small business owners were in attendance. And, for the first time, WIPP was invited to participate in a break-out session with American Express OPEN and the SBA talking about the launch of ChallengeHER and our historical success with the WOSB Program.
Last week's activities demonstrate the continued power of the WIPP Procurement platform. We were on the cutting edge when we first entered the space in 2008, and we continue to be a thought leader and true partner both to small businesses and the government agencies seeking to do business with them.
Take The Challenge
WIPP has advocated long and hard over the past decade to increase procurement opportunities for WOSBs. The foundation of legislation, education, access and support has been laid, but we need you to help build the new ChallengeHER program. Join us in spreading awareness and increasing the number of secured federal contracts allocated to women business owners. All it takes is your support and enrollment. And if you can help, let me know!
We hope you will share information about ChallengeHER with your friends, family, peers and social media followers and take advantage of our invaluable resources, instructions, regional trainings and events by enrolling today in this campaign.
Join us on the ChallengeHER journey and together we will grow.
