77 cents on the dollar

50 years ago, President John F Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act -- a milestone piece of legislation aimed at making sure men and women receive equal pay for equal work.

But we're not there yet. Women make approximately 77 cents to every dollar earned by men, a gap that gets even wider for women of color.

President Obama has made tackling this issue a priority -- signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and launching the National Equal Pay Task Force. And his was the first administration to create a Council on Women & Girls.

There's still more to do, like passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, training more women for careers in science, technology, and math, and making sure that businesses offer parents the flexibility they need to excel in their jobs and care for their children.

We can get there, but we'll need your help. Start by watching this video with Tina Tchen, Executive Director of the Council on Women & Girls. She helps lay out where we've been and where we need to go.

So watch the video, and forward it on to help build support for equal pay.
