|A Message from the President . . .|
I'm happy to announce the new Board of Directors has started their term with a bang!Following the June Installation event, we had a record-breaking turnout at our July Educational Speaker Series dinner event, where Leslie Blodgett awed a packed room with her very personal and heart-felt story. The room was abuzz with excitement and energy.Simon Cowell, CEO of Bare Escentuals & Ben Davis who conceived the Bay Lights project for the Bay Bridge, were among the attendees.I continue to get emails from attendees who gained great insight to how she built an impressive billion dollar brand.Plus, all attendees were treated to a special goodie bag of Bare Minerals products! We ended the evening with an opportunity drawing - a special thank you to PG&E for donating a Kindle and Leslie Blodgett for donating a $200 gift basket. In the last two months, we've raised $672 for the Alliance For Girls organization.Let's keep the momentum going!Read More

Channeling Wealth for Good
Interview with Suzanne Sheuerman, Financial Advisor
The dysfunction that comes with inter-generational wealth transfer fascinates Morgan Stanley financial adviser, Suzanne Sheuerman. She has seen too many women fritter away their wealth when they feel guilty about its source.
"I teach people that while they cannot always control how they got their money, they can control what they do with it." Sue shows them how to invest along value lines and leverage their capital to change the world. For example, the environmental granddaughter of an oil baron might shift her portfolio from fossil fuel stocks to alternative energy companies. "Sound fiscal management that aligns with their values gives them pride in what they have done. And that improves women's progress in society."Are you a Member of NAWBO SFBA?

|Summer Recess: Meet Your Congresspeople|
Public policy victories come from relationship building. Now that Congress has taken a break for the August recess, it is time to get to know your elected officials and their staffs. This recess gives you with an opportunity to show the elected officials who work for you the value women business owners bring to the community! Here's some ideas to connect:
- Set up a meeting at the district office near you.
- Invite your Representatives to visit your place of business to see the contribution you make to economy and hear about the challenges you are facing.
- Attend local Town Halls or Meet and Greet events set up by their staff. You can see the schedules on their websites.
- Contact them via social media
Summer recess is ideal time to begin or deepen a relationship with your elected officials. It sets you up to have an established relationship when legislation arises that may impact your business. Remember, relationships with elected officials are a two-way street. You need to establish yourself through outreach as an expert on your business and the issues that impact it. In turn, once your expertise is established, the elected officials are much more likely to reach to you for your input as issues arise.
If you would like some additional ideas or advice, contact our public policy board member (and past president)Kay Robinson.
