WIPP Efforts Highlighted by Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Outgoing Chair of Senate Small Business Committee, in Senate Floor Speech on the Importance of Sole Source Authority for the WOSB Procurement Program
In a recent speech on the Senate floor, Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), the outgoing Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship highlighted the work of WIPP and other organizations on legislative efforts to provide sole source authority to the Women Owned Small Business (WOSB) Procurement Program. Senator Cantwell, along with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) took the lead in the Senate to push through this important provision that would improve access to the federal marketplace for women business owners.
Sole source authority is set to be approved as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. WIPP led the legislative efforts to move this proposal through the House and Senate, coordinating various business organizations and activating grassroots outreach to help with final passage.
In her remarks, Senator Cantwell also highlighted two WIPP members – Trena Payton of ABN Technologies and Charlotte Baker of Digital Hands – who shared their stories with legislators to help shed light on the importance of sole source authority for women-owned small businesses.
