New House Chair Ready to Get Down to (Small) Business

Incoming House Small Business Committee Chair Steve Chabot (R-OH) wants to move quickly to use his new position to advocate for small businesses. Chair Chabot, a former small business owner himself, is a long time figure on the Committee where he has been his entire 18 years in Congress.

During recent remarks, the new Chair announced his plans to follow in his predecessor’s footsteps, identifying opportunities to reduce regulatory and compliance burdens on small businesses, procurement reform, as well as ways to speed up the Small Business Administration (SBA) loan approval process.  Also on his list: tax reform for small businesses.  Chair Chabot believes that tax reform must be comprehensive, changing corporate and personal tax systems at the same time, a position WIPP strongly supports.

Republican Committee assignments were announced earlier this month; however, the Democratic minority, led by Ranking Member Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), has not yet announced who will serve on the Committee. Until then, the Committee cannot schedule hearings.
