WIPP Supports Expansion of Healthcare Tax Credit for Small Businesses

When the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed, WIPP made very clear that while the health exchanges were an important part of the law and garnered our support, no law making major changes to an industry is perfect.  Since passage of the landmark legislation, Women Impacting Public Policy has supported changes to the law that make sense for business owners.  Last week, legislation introduced by Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) would make more small businesses eligible for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit by expanding the eligibility for businesses using the tax credit. The bill, S. 379, would increase the size of businesses that can qualify for a business tax credit worth up to 50% of employer-paid premium costs. WIPP supports this change to the ACA, among other legislation that also improves the current law and makes access to health insurance more affordable for businesses, especially those with fewer than 50 employees. More information is included in WIPP’s support letter
