WIPP Urges Congress to Support Funding Benefitting Women Entrepreneurs

WIPP is advocating that the government allocate the needed resources to help women business owners.

With the House and Senate passing the FY16 budget resolution, appropriations season is ready to begin. WIPP is weighing in with recommendations to the Congress to ensure that women entrepreneurs have the necessary federal resources to succeed.

Increased access to training and counseling for women owned businesses could be achieved by allotting $16 million to Women’s Business Centers (WBCs).  Currently, the WBC program assists women entrepreneurs access more than $25 million in capital. Increasing funding from $14 million to $16 million for the WBC program would ensure that more women entrepreneurs could take advantage of the services of the WBCs. In addition, WIPP asked for the following appropriations:

  • National Women’s Business Council                     $1 million
  • Microloan Program Lending                                   $25 million
  • Microloan Program Technical Assistance              $25 million
  • PRIME Program                                                     $5 million
  • SBA Office of Advocacy                                         $9.1 million
