WIPP Advocacy in FY2016 Appropriations Requests

With appropriations season in full swing, WIPP submitted appropriations requests to the House and Senate. SBA hosts a number of programs that support women-owned businesses by giving them the tools and capital they need to succeed. As noted above, a majority of SBA-backed microloans go to women entrepreneurs while the Women’s Business Center program provides counseling and training to more than 140,000 entrepreneurs annually.

To complement and support the efforts of women business owners, WIPP is requesting the following FY2016 government program funding levels:

·   Women’s Business Centers                           $16 million

·   National Women’s Business Council              $1 million

·   Microloan Program Lending                           $35 million

·   Microloan Program Technical Assistance      $25 million

·   PRIME Program                                            $5 million

·   Office of Advocacy                                         $9.1 million

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government is expected to mark up its bill in June. WIPP’s Government Relations Team is meeting with offices on the Hill to ensure that funding for these vital programs remains intact.
