Export-Import Bank Expiration Date Nears

Reauthorization of  the Export-Import Bank - a government agency that finances American exports - faces an uphill battle with the battle drawn largely along partisan lines.  With Ex-Im set to expire at the end of June, opponents of Ex-Im’s reauthorization believe the agency favors corporations and distorts markets. Supporters of Ex-Im stress the agency’s importance in encouraging American exports, highlighting the fact that the agency gives small business loans for exporting goods.

It is possible that a reauthorization bill could hit the Senate floor this week, but many believe that a vote may not be considered until after Ex-Im’s expiration in July.
