Congress Dedicates More Money to Programs Supporting Women Entrepreneurs

In a big win for women entrepreneurs, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) increased funding to both Women’s Business Centers and the Microloan Program, where women make up the majority of loan recipients. These two programs were top priorities in WIPP’s annual funding request to Congress.

Under the bill, Women’s Business Centers would receive an additional $2 million, raising total Center funding to $17 million. Microloan lending would be increased to $35 million while the associated counseling services would receive $25 million. The victory was especially significant given a more than one percent cut to FSGG funding overall.

The bill will now move to the Appropriations Committee for a final markup before heading to the House floor for a vote. The Senate version has not yet been released. Read more on the FSGG bill here.
