Veterans Bills Advance in Closed Committee Meeting

In addition to the microloan legislation (above), the Senate Small Business Committee approved three bills addressing veterans’ entrepreneurship and one bill on small business energy efficiency. The Veterans Small Business Owners Improvement Act of 2015 (S.1866) would authorize SBA’s “Boots to Business”, Women Veterans Business Training, Business Training for Service Disabled Veterans, and Veterans Business Outreach Center programs. These programs provide business development training and counseling for veterans that includes technical assistance and financial, management and marketing advice.

The Veterans Small Business Enhancement Act of 2015 (1400) allows veteran-owned small businesses to participate in the General Services Administration run surplus property program at no cost to the recipient, while the Veterans Entrepreneurial Transition Act of 2015 (S. 1870) would authorize a pilot program through SBA allowing eligible veterans to use their GI bill benefits to start or acquire qualifying businesses.

Finally, the Small Business Energy Efficiency Act (S. 1756) would extend SBA’s 504 lending program to businesses looking to invest in energy efficiency improvements.
