WIPP National Partner of the Month

 

WIPP sat down with this month's National Partner of the Month to hear a little more about her company and relationship with WIPP: 

 

Tell us a little about your company and its mission.

 

FSR was started with the desire to help our wounded warriors heal and to provide healthcare personnel with the clinical expertise to our military treatment facilities and VA hospitals around the country.  

 

 

Have you always been an entrepreneur?  If not, what, or who, inspired you to take this leap?

 

I was a Registered Nurse with 25 years of ICU and Trauma nursing experience. I had the opportunity to work at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as a government contractor.  This exposure provided me the ability to care for individuals who had sacrificed for our freedoms, hear their stories and meet their families. I was encouraged to start a business that could provide more than just my expertise at the bedside and also be an employer of best in class healthcare professionals that had the same passion as I did. 

 

How has your background in Healthcare helped develop and grow your company?

 

As a RN, I understood the environment that I was placing our professionals in.  I could speak the same language, however, learning the business of government contracting was a challenge as my background was in patient care.  I was working nights as a RN at Walter Reed and during the day, I was focused getting business, writing proposals and learning about government contracting.  

 

Do you have a contracting success story that you are proud of? 

 

There is not one contract that I am more proud of than the others, however, none came without sacrifices and hard work. Once you receive a Government contract, your goal is to exceed your customer’s expectations and  gain outstanding performance ratings. Having gotten my 8(a) certification within the same year as I started FSR (through a waiver), has helped me a great deal, although it took 18 months of hard work and complete dedication before I got my 1st Government contract. 

 

Tell us about your experience as a WIPP Member? What resources/value has WIPP provided that has been helpful to you and your company?

 

WIPP has provided me with the education on policy and what is going on in government contracting  in a concise fashion.  There is a lot of material to read and learn about, however I can go to a single website and find out what is going on.  I was so excited that WIPP was so instrumental in getting sole source opportunities and specific set asides for WOSB!

Tracy Balazs is the President and CEO of Federal Staffing Resources, LLC dba FSR, an entrepreneur, a visionary and a thought leader in the government contracting, medical, life sciences, human resources, executive search, veteran jobs placement and staffing fields. She launched FSR over 11 years ago, and has built it into a leading provider of workforce solutions and program management provider; delivering on her promise to provide specialized expertise for FSR’s clients on a national basis.

 

For over 25 years, Tracy worked as a Registered Nurse in a variety of settings. She worked in a prestigious and well known trauma center in Baltimore, MD, where she helped heal a patient population that was dealing with devastating injuries. Then, through a government contract, she began nursing at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC, where her work focused on helping returning military veterans who had been involved in horrific war related injuries.

 

Tracy Balazs has 11 solid years of government contracting experience, much of it self-taught.  Everyday she learns from other successful businesses and industry leaders and applies and incorporates what she has learned into making FSR a stronger healthier company.  Understanding the importance of the knowledge she has gained, Tracy is open to educating and guiding with best practices other business owners that may be new to government contracting.  She shares her knowledge freely and has spoken on several occasions in variety of forums. Tracy has also worked to have FSR become a Small Business Administration (SBA) approved Mentor in the 8(a) Mentor-Protégé program.  The SBA approved this relationship even before FSR graduated from the 8(a) program. 

 

After years of serving the federal government, Tracy decided that her services could be extended to the commercial and private sector with a focus in the technology and life sciences industry; providing personnel and executive search for all organizations requesting subject matter expertise so they can meet their mission. She recognized the need for personnel to match an organization's mission, culture and values in order for long-term retention and job satisfaction. Her goal of improving operational success rests in her ability to understand how the needs and goals of an organization align with those of the people it employs. Tracy has designed FSR with an extremely selective hiring process to ensure that their clients receive the highest quality personnel that have proven excellence in their respective fields and that are aligned with the organization’s specific and unique culture.

 

Through Tracy’s leadership, FSR has been serving our nation’s heroes since 2004 and believes that no veteran should have to fight for a job after they fight for our nation. Inspired by the White House Veteran hiring initiatives, FSR has designed a program for veterans and hiring managers to address the spectrum of career goals, skills, experiences, and challenges connected with military services. Recognizing that there are various levels of veteran experience with unique perspectives from each military branch has helped FSR prepare veterans to succeed and supports their long-term career success. For her clients, she has been helpful in supporting or even initiating a veteran affinity group so the transition into the private sector is successful for both the veteran and the company.

 

Tracy surrounds herself with outstanding professionals who are loyal and dedicated to the success of FSR and the mission of their clients.  Her team of subject matter experts have shaped and built the reputation FSR is known for. Tracy knows that she may have started something special, however it is her team that has sustained it. Without their hard work and commitment, FSR would not be where it is today.

 

Tracy is very happily married to Michael Balazs and is a proud mother of two children, James and Samantha.  She is highly aware that her accomplishments in business have not been without sacrifices to her family and that without their constant support, she would not have been able to thrive in work with such passion.
