2016 Healthcare Enrollment Around the Corner

Individuals and businesses should be planning for healthcare coverage in the New Year.  On November 1, 2015 the period known as “open enrollment” begins.  This is the only time of year for individuals to switch plans and apply for cost assistance. Plans and pricing should be currently available through your healthcare marketplace. More information on 2016 open enrollment can be found here.

A possible change to expand the small business marketplace, or SHOP marketplace, to businesses with fewer than 100 employees (currently the maximum is 50), was blocked by bipartisan legislation signed by President Obama. The Protecting Affordable Coverage for Employees (PACE) Act gives states the option to expand the SHOP marketplace to larger businesses. As a reminder, penalties for not providing health insurance only apply to businesses with 50 or more employees.

WIPP advocates for targeted reforms to the Affordable Care Act to assist women entrepreneurs and ensure that health insurance exchanges provide options for small business at competitive prices.
