Transportation Bill Moves…. But Not in the Fast Lane

For government contractors that specialize in infrastructure projects, the last decade has been a series of stops and starts. A long-term authorization, funding highway and transportation projects, has been elusive. Contractors know how difficult it is to complete long-term projects when funding is only guaranteed for a few months. Earlier this summer, the Senate passed a long-term extension and, just this week, the House moved on a bill of its own

The House Transportation Committee approved The Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015, which authorizes up to $325 billion for highway and infrastructure projects over the next six years. This bill differs from the Senate version and the two chambers will now have to resolve those differences before a final product can be passed. With the latest temporary extension expiring on October 29th, another short-term fix will be needed.
