Every veteran has his or her own story of service, sacrifice and family. Last week, Walmart joined four organizations including the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Team Red, White and Blue, Hire Heroes USA and Blue Star Families to spark a nationwide campaign called Greenlight A Vet.
The program encourages Americans to show support that's both symbolic and actionable to the more than 250,000 service members that return to civilian life each year. A green light means "go", and that's what veterans are known for. They take decisive action and drive results no matter what the challenge is.
Anyone can Greenlight A Vet:
Hire one today or help a veteran find a job.
Volunteer and serve with veterans groups in your local community.
Start a mentor/mentee relationship with a returning veteran.
Raise awareness on social media.
Or simply signal support by changing your porch light to green.
You can offer to help a veteran build or improve a resume, ask your community leaders to display green lights on visible buildings or simply tell your friends, family and neighbors about this effort.
Veterans bring incredible talent to any company. At Walmart, we've added more than 100,000 veterans to our team through the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment since May 2013 and we're well on our way to hire 250,000 by 2020. Beyond hiring, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation made a $20 million commitment to programs that offer support services like job training and education to returning veterans and their families.
Join us in giving support to America's brave service men and women and their families and Greenlight A Vet.
