US Congress Recognizes Small Business Saturday

Congressional support for Small Business Saturday was formally displayed in two resolutions designating November 28th as Small Business Saturday. The House resolution, supported by over 60 cosponsors, was introduced by House Small Business Committee Chair Steve Chabot (R-OH) and top Democrat Nydia Velazquez (D-NY). A similar resolution, introduced by Small Business Committee Leaders Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), unanimously passed the Senate earlier this month.

This year, over 3,000 neighborhoods and communities will be participating in the nationwide event, planning activities to support their local businesses.  Nearly 400 small business groups have already advocated for its success.

WIPP continues to lead the Small Business Saturday Coalition and celebrates the event’s impact on women-owned small businesses. According to the National Women’s Business Council, there are 10 million women-owned businesses in the United States and Small Business Saturday is important to their bottom line.
