WIPP Policy Update – February 8, 2016

President Renews Push for Equal Pay

The President’s first signed piece of legislation – back in 2009 – was the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that championed a simple message: Equal Pay for Equal Work. Now as the President’s second term draws to a close, he is bookending his tenure with a renewed push for wage equality.

The President recently announced a proposed rule from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that will update reporting requirements for wages, categorized by gender, race and ethnicity.  Firms with more than 100 employees will be required to report this information beginning in 2017. The Administration believes that this data, which will be collected from an estimated 63 million workers, can help determine whether employees are being compensated fairly.

Comments on the proposal are due on April 1, 2016 and can be submitted here
