Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Forough Ghahramani, WIPP National Founding Partner and Executive Advisory Board Member, and Dean of Business Technology at DeVry New Jersey, was among 30 women representing women’s organizations worldwide, invited to participate in the historic launch and signing of the Global Technology Collaborative to enhance girls and women’s serving organizations at the United Nations’ meeting for the Commission on the Status of Women in honor of International Women’s Day. The Global Women’s Technology Collaborative supports the development of collaborative organizations among women and technology serving organizations interested in addressing issues of access, literacy, employment, innovation, and leadership in technology development. By combining the largely untapped potential of women worldwide with innovative ideas enabled through technology, all women, their families and communities prosper. The vision of the Global Technology Collaborative is realized through the promotion of girls’ interests in STEM and women’s entry into and advancement in technology careers.
According to Ghahramani, “Through the Global Technology Collaborative - the plan is to connect women engineers, teachers, and entrepreneurs, and begin to address the gendered dimensions of the digital divide to ensure the best and brightest minds, including women’s, are developed to help solve the shared global challenges. It is imperative to encourage increased education and participation of groups currently under-represented in STEM. We need the talent of every worker in order to compete and prosper.” Forough Ghahramani sees tremendous value in her participation in these types of events in fulfilling her own passion for expanding opportunities for the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
