Highlights from April 1,2016
WIGC Forum II
Where there's a will, there's a way." Marta Wilson, inspirational speaker and founder/CEO of Transformation
Systems Inc. (TSI), an award-winning executive strategies and management systems engineering firm, used this axiom to remind the attendees of the second annual GovConnects' Women in Government Contracting Forum that "will" is an
intention. When we have the will, we will discover the way, i.e. the mechanism, to make it happen. These three transformations happen in three distinct areas: Ourselves, our relationships, and our endeavors. Through personal, interpersonal, organization and motivational mastery, people can advance to the leading edge and drive success for themselves and for others. Speaking to an audience of nearly 100 people on April 1, Dr. Marta Wilson delved into the characteristics and ideologies of those people and companies that excel, and those that motivate others to excel.
The afternoon distinguished leadership panel included Kathleen Hutson, Director of Human Resources at the National Security Agency; and Deb Alderson, President & CEO of Sotera Defense Solutions. They discussed their professional career growth, and the importance in times of change to get out there and talk to people you work with. No one gets through adversity alone.
Through break-out sessions dealing with leadership and delegation ("If you can do something with your eyes closed, it's time to delegate to someone else."), crucial business decisions as a company grows ("Do not hire people just like you; hire with a different skill set."), and leveraging business certifications for federal contracts (when to team; when to form joint venture?), attendees gained valuable insight from those who have successfully built their own businesses in the federal market place. In addition, the breaks, lunch, and reception provided ample opportunity for networking and growing business relationships.
