WIPP members join world efforts to provide support to Haiti

Last week we reached out to provide you information on how you could respond to the catastrophic earthquake and tragedy that struck near Port-au[Prince, Haiti,  and I was, once again, overwhelmed with your response – how much you care, and how willing you are to give of your time and resources to help others in need.    This response, the ability to see beyond the day-to-day work and activities and be part of the world family is unique and a testament to our community.     The information follows again, below – but I am also calling attention to the following two paragraphs:

While it is of the upmost importance to support immediate relief efforts, we must also look to the future— reconstructing not only the buildings and infrastructure, but the hopes of Haitians.  The Global Fund for Women informs that women are especially impacted by natural disasters, not only suffering higher death rates than men, but are more at risk for violence and insufficient access to healthcare necessities.  The Global Fund for Women encourages the empowerment of women in the aftermath of such a catastrophe.

WIPP will work towards this vision for Haiti’s future by establishing a team that will aim continued efforts at the Administration and SBA.  If you would like to join WIPP in this endeavor, please contact Jessica Davis at jdavis@wipp.org.

Please join us in this effort.   I’m not sure yet how it will look, how we can help, but I do know that it is so uniquely characteristic of WIPP to look to the future.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Following is a recap of our broadcast:

The catastrophic earthquake on Tuesday that struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti brought us together as one to send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and extend our support to members of the WIPP community with friends and family there.  If you are looking for a way to help, two of WIPP’s Corporate Partners are working on special projects: CARE, who has over 133 full time employees mobilized on the ground, and Global EXEC Women, who is working through their Board Member, Kathy A. Miller, Vice President, American Red Cross to support the American Red Cross’ relief efforts.

CARE offers four immediate steps for action: donate to the Haiti Emergency Response Fund; share on Twitter, "CARE has 133 staff in Haiti and is sending more today. You can help now - please donate at www.care.org”; donate your Facebook status to informing friends of CARE’s efforts through a link to CARE’s cause page; and send emails to personal networks to empower your community to support CARE’s efforts.

The American Red Cross also launched a massive relief campaign.  Pleaseclick here to donate to their Haiti Relief and Development Fund.

Please check the White House site, http://www.whitehouse.gov/haitiearthquake, for complete information on the federal response and the latest information from Haiti.
