Women's Suffrage 90 Year Anniversary
Thursday, August 26, 2010
Ninety years ago today, women finally won the vote.
After over seven decades of organizing and fighting in every state in the union, the 19th amendment was ratified on August 26, 1920.
Women have never taken the right to vote for granted. In fact, women repeatedly turn out to the polls in larger numbers than any other population in this nation.
And, today, not only are more women serving in our state legislatures and in Congress, but we have the first woman Speaker of the House in history.
This year, we have so many strong women candidates -- Frontline members, women on Red to Blue and more -- that need your help. That's why I have set a goal to raise $90,000 today from supporters like you to honor this important anniversary by contributing to the DCCC's Women Lead program, which helps to elect Democratic women to the House.
Please consider a contribution of $9, $90 or more today to honor this important anniversary, and to ensure that we are prepared to fight just as hard now for all Americans. <http://www.dccc.org/page/m/1d63c7e2/1b939df2/65e08800/4e0d0c0b/1761255630/VEsH/>
Since 2007, I have chaired the DCCC's Women LEAD program, which raises money from women for strong women candidates in districts across the country. And this year, I am honored to co-chair the DCCC's Red to Blue effort, working to elect smart, talented and hard-working women and men in Republican held districts nationwide.
In 2006 and 2008, women helped us to build our majority. Through these last two years, it has been women who have enabled us to pass the most critical legislation in generations - Health Care Reform, the Recovery Act and Wall Street Reform.
This year, we need women - candidates, voters and supporters - in order to hold onto our Democratic majority in Congress.
To honor the 90th anniversary of women's suffrage, please make a contribution to the DCCC of $9, $90 or $900 today to ensure that we elect even more women to Congress this year. <http://www.dccc.org/page/m/1d63c7e2/1b939df2/65e08800/4e0d0c0b/1761255630/VEsE/>
Ninety years ago, it was dedicated people who fought to ensure that women had a voice in our government. This year, it will be dedicated people like you who ensure that we continue that voice, stronger than before, by maintaining our majority in the House with Speaker Pelosi.
Your support today will give us the resources we need to talk about the important work that Democrats in Congress have done for the American people, to respond to the Republican's baseless attacks on our candidates, and to fight back against the radical right wing agenda the Republicans are putting forth across America.
Please consider a contribution of $9, $90 or more today to honor this important anniversary, and to ensure that we are prepared to fight just as hard now for all Americans. <http://www.dccc.org/page/m/1d63c7e2/1b939df2/65e08800/4e0d0c0b/1761255630/VEsF/>
