April 12, 2011 has been designated as “Equal Pay Day”

April 12, 2011 has been designated as "Equal Pay Day” –
it’s the day that symbolizes the extra amount of time a woman must work – from
January 1, 2010 to April 12, 2011 – for her wages to equal what a man could
earn in the 2010 calendar year alone.
The Women’s Bureau Region 9 office is pleased to announce
that a resource kit, complete with a power point presentation, brochure, case
studies, lesson plans and instructions for assembling a "cookie bag” is now
available for community advocates and educators. The resource kit is based on the successful
project developed by the Santa Clara County’s Office of Women’s Policy and the
Coalition for Equal Pay. This free
resource is loaded onto a CD and also has instructions for updating it annually
so that you can use it in future years.
The project was expanded this year to help community leaders in the
states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Guam, offer meaningful
educational programs and work with educators in their local communities on
equal pay activities. The project was
developed by the Santa Clara County Office of Women’s Policy and the Equal Pay
Coalition of Santa Clara County and was funded in part through a contract with
the Women’s Bureau’s Region 9 office.
In previous years, social science, economics and history
teachers in Santa Clara County, CA have used these materials to catch the
attention of hundreds of students during April.
Teachers have reported that students share the information with their
friends and relatives. Promoting
education and awareness is one of the most important ways to reduce the wage
gap and ensure that individuals are paid wages based upon their work equal to
their peers’ –– regardless of their gender.
To receive a free Equal Pay Resource Kit in the mail,
please contact the Coalition for Equal Pay at email@example.com

the project can also be directed to Kelly Jenkins-Pultz in the Women’s Bureau

your colleagues that might be interested in participating in the project.
