National Women Business Owners Corporation Named a Third Party Certifier
Lake Park, FL (July 7, 2011) –The Small Business Administration (SBA) has selected the National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC) as a Third Party Certifier for the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract Program.
Established in February 2011, the WOSB Federal Contract Program provides WOSBs and Economically Disadvantaged WOSBs (EDWOSBs) increased access to federal contracting opportunities. For the first time, the program allows contracting officers to set aside contracts specifically for WOSBs and EDWOSBs for NAICS codes in which they are underrepresented and substantially underrepresented and helps federal agencies meet their required five percent contracting dollars to be awarded to WOSBs.
"We are excited to be a SBA approved Third Party Certifier and look forward to providing WOSBs with the needed tools to penetrate government contracting opportunities” said Janet Harris-Lange, NWBOC President. "Lack of access to this market in the past has obstructed growth for women business owners. This program is a huge step for WOSBs, who will play a key role in leading our country back to economic stability.”
Certification through NWBOC will include a fee covering the organization's conduction of an in-depth review, site visit, and completion of reporting materials to achieve SBA certification. WOSBs and EDWOSBs also have the option to complete documentation on their own and self-certify directly through the SBA for no cost.
The nation's first national and third party certifier of WBEs, NWBOC, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides a national certification program for women-owned businesses, ensuring that a private, for-profit company is truly owned and managed by a woman. NWBOC was established in 1995 for the purpose of increasing competition for corporate and government contracts through implementation of a pioneering economic development strategy for women business owners.
