Every day, millions of American women
juggle work, family, errands, personal interests,
and life in general. Wireless is often a favorite
tool to empower women to do business on the go, communicate
with family and friends, keep calendars and contacts,
and if needed, to get help in emergencies. More than
ever, small business owners have hundreds of choices
in phones, features and calling plans. That’s
why business owners must stand together against state
and federal governments who continue to threaten the
quality and affordability of wireless service with
unnecessary regulations and regressive taxes that
limit choice, slow innovation and drive up costs.
RECENT NATIONAL MW SURVEY:
A recent national bipartisan survey of wireless
users clearly shows that women are overwhelmingly
satisfied with their wireless phone service and are
oppose adding new regulations.
- 90% of female wireless phone users are satisfied
with their service.
- 70% of women believe adding new state government
regulations on wireless phone service would either
make their wireless phone service “worse”
or make “no difference.”
- 82% of women don’t want higher wireless
taxes or fees.
- 90% of women think the taxes on their monthly
wireless phone bill should be “lower”
or “the same” as taxes on general business
goods and services, which is approximately 7%.
- 81% of women agree that “competition among
wireless providers gives consumers enough choices
so they can pick the wireless device, plan, options
and content that best fits their needs.”

IMPORTANT FACTS:
Today's average wireless consumer faces
an unfair and growing tax burden:
- The average wireless consumer already pays over
15% in combined federal, state
and local government taxes and fees on their monthly
wireless bills.
- Wireless taxes are currently DOUBLE
or TRIPLE that of other goods and
services. The excessive state and local tax rate
on wireless service increased more than 4 times
faster than other goods and services between January
2003 and July 2007. Every level of government is
unfairly taxing wireless users to pay for programs
and balance budgets.
- Nationally, wireless consumers pay approximately
$21 billion dollars annually in
wireless taxes and fees.

Support a 5-Year Break on All Unfair, New State and
Local Wireless Taxes
Email
your U.S. Representative to support H.R. 5793, the
Lofgren-Cannon "Cell Tax Fairness Act of 2008."
Email
your U.S. Senators to support S. 3249, the Wyden-Snowe
"Mobile Wireless Tax Fairness Act."
Tired of spiraling state and local taxes and fees
on your monthly wireless bill? You are not alone.
Over 260 million American wireless consumers are increasingly
saddled with an unfair tax burden by their federal,
state and local governments. Wireless costs have dropped
nearly 80 percent over the last 10 years, but the
typical wireless consumer now faces over 15 percent
on average in taxes, fees and surcharges on his or
her wireless service, more than twice
the average tax rate for other goods and services
in this country.
Congress is again working to forge consumer-friendly
tax policies that will impact over 260 million American
wireless consumers just like you. Important bipartisan
legislation has been introduced by Reps. Lofgren (D-CA)
and Cannon (R-UT) in the House and Senators Wyden
(D-OR) and Snowe (R-ME) in the Senate, and you can
make a difference by letting your U.S. Representative
and your Senators know where you stand on H.R. 5793,
the "Cell Tax Fairness Act of 2008" and
S. 3249, the "Mobile Wireless Tax Fairness Act."
Please act now to support a 5-year freeze on unfair
new state and local wireless taxes.
Please urge your Representative and Senators to
join their colleagues in cosponsoring H.R. 5793 and
S. 3249 today. Also, you can say 'thank you' to the
Members who have already cosponsored this pro-consumer
legislation. CLICK
