Economic Summit for Women Business Owners

October 2, 2009, 8am-5pm

W Hotel – 8th Floor Altitude Room
515 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC

No one can deny that 2009 has been a staggering year for America.  From the economic crisis to vast policy initiatives in Washington, DC everyone has been challenged to learn and understand a new reality.  In this new dynamic landscape Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), in partnership with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is proud to announce the Economic Summit for Women Business Owners taking place on October 2, 2009 in Washington, DC.

The need for  small businesses, corporations, organizations, and the government to work together to present new opportunities for mutual growth and success will be our focus for the day.  As attention begins to turn towards 2010 planning, there could be no more critical time to come together to explore the path to economic recovery and our ability to leverage our strengths and collaborate across sectors and industries.

Program highlights include:

  • Walmart’s new CEO, Mike Duke, will join us to share Walmart’s perspective on the opportunities ahead, the role women in business play in our economic recovery, and to discuss how working together strengthens and benefits all of us.  Congressional and Administration are invited to join discussions for the day.

  • Austan Goolsbee, Member of the Council of Economic Advisers and Staff Director and Chief Economist,President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board

  • The Center for Women’s Business Research will release results of a major research project highlighting the direct and indirect financial impact of women entrepreneurs on the economy.   The survey was commissioned and underwritten by the National Women’s Business Council, Center for Women’s Business Research and Walmart.
The path to economic recovery lies in our ability to leverage our strengths and to collaborate across sectors and industries - small businesses, corporations, organizations and the government working together to present new and needed opportunities for mutual growth and success.
