This month on August 26th we celebrated Women’s Equality Day, the anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment allowing women the right to vote.  Fast forward to today, we have groups like WIPP and all of you who have harnessed the power of women for positive change.  Though we have further to go, our willingness to work together in a coalition to advance women’s economic empowerment through business ownership has led to important successes.  Thank you for your support!

NWBC Survey Analysis Shows Women-Owned Business Growth Soars

Survey of Business Owners and while the growth rate for new businesses has slowed down, that is not the case for women-owned firms. The rate of growth of women-owned businesses is almost FOUR TIMES the rate of businesses owned by men. The results show that there were nearly 10 million women-owned small businesses in the US in 2012, a 27.5% increase since 2007. There is also a huge spike in minority women business ownership. The analysis also shows that in 2012, women-owned firms with employees paid their employees $290.5 billion- a $75.8 billion or 35.3% increase since 2007.

Take Action: Advocate for WIPP during August Recess

Following the passage of highway funding legislation, the House departed for the annual August recess. The Senate soon followed the next week. During this time, Members go back to their Districts or States to meet with Constituents.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to meet your legislators and staff, and amplify WIPP’s Advocacy efforts. To help you with this, WIPP put together a recess packet for members.

This packet explains many of the unanswered questions that people have about meeting with their Senators or Representative like: Why you need to be an advocate, how to reach your legislator, how to make the meeting valuable, talking points on the issue of Access to Capital, and much more. Click here to view the packet.
