Celebrating International Women's Day and The Violence Against Women Act


Happy International Women's Day! Today the United States celebrates the many milestones of progress toward gender equality and we recommit ourselves to fighting for the rights, opportunities and dreams of women and girls around the world. Read the President's statement.

Yesterday, President Obama signed a bill that both strengthens and reauthorizes the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Thanks to the bipartisan agreement, the law strengthens the criminal justice system's response to crimes against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking.
