April 2014: AT&T Small Business Highlights

AT&T spends $15.5 billion with certified diverse suppliers

AT&T spent $15.5 billion in 2013, or 28 percent of its total spend, with certified diverse suppliers — the highest percentage the company has ever achieved through its supplier diversity program. In 2012, AT&T spent $12.8 billion with diverse suppliers.

AT&T Diversity Spending Growth: In 2013, AT&T spent $15.5 billion with diverse suppliers. That's 28% of total spend, a 4 point increase over 2012.

“Supplier diversity is key to our overall success, and we take pride in being a leader in this area,” said Tim Harden, AT&T Supply Chain president. “Diverse suppliers are an integral part of our supply chain, as evidenced by achieving our largest-ever diversity spend in 2013. They bring valuable perspective to the table, and that benefits everyone — our customers, the community and our company.”

AT&T’s Global Supplier Diversity organization gives certified diverse businesses worldwide an opportunity to provide the company with products and services. AT&T Supplier Diversity promotes participation and helps bring more minority, women and service-disabled veteran owned businesses to its supply chain.

Introducing the Business Circle

Last week, AT&T launched a digital hub for small business titled, “Business Circle brought to you by AT&T.” Business Circle is designed to help small businesses interact with — and learn from — each other. It will bring people together in an environment supported by AT&T. More specifically, the hub will:

Enable small business owners to connect and engage with their community, experts, vendors, partners and even potential customers.

Provide a personalized platform with tips, tools and exclusive resources for small business owners.

I encourage you to check out this hub and connect with other businesses that are doing unique and interesting things!

AT&T Celebrates Women's History Month

Recently, AT&T’s Shelley Goldman penned a blog on the Huffington Post that talks about her own experience embracing a career in a STEM-related field. Drawing on this experience, Goldman makes the case for more women to consider these career options as they advance in their education.

Additionally, on the blog Women 2.0, Marion Croak, Senior Vice President – Domain 2.0 Architecture and Advanced Services Development, AT&T, writes about how she found her voice when advocating for new ideas and innovative solutions at a time when speaking up was not an easy thing to do.

Shelley and Marion speak to the kind of commitment all of us at AT&T want to make to encourage young women everywhere.

March was a time to celebrate many things — the arrival of spring, the excitement of basketball championships and (perhaps, most of all) the contributions of all the women who’ve helped shape our world. March was also, most importantly, Women’s History MonthAt AT&T, we have more than 90,000 female employees and millions of women customers. They’re our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and colleagues; and they are a tremendous source of inspiration for us all.

Read all about the contributions of AT&T women here, this month and every month.

4,031 reasons our communities are improving

Impacting a community can take many forms. It can mean mentoring a student online in science and math each week, cleaning up a city that has recently been impacted by a natural disaster, or traveling overseas to meet the needs of people in a country far away.

 AT&T PVSA awards

Over time, these moments of giving can add up to millions of service hours.

This month, we recognize 4,031 AT&T employees who are being recognized by President Obama for their outstanding service to their communities. These volunteers will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), a prestigious honor awarded annually by the President of the United States in recognition of sustained volunteer service.

To earn the national honor, these employees volunteered more than 100 hours during 2013. Some volunteered more than 500 hours to receive the Gold Award.

We would like to congratulate our PVSA 2014 recipients and thank them for their commitment to improving the communities where they live and work.
