Spotlight on International Trade

During his State of the Union address this week, President Obama put a spotlight on growing America’s economy through international trade. Many business leaders tell us that making it easier to do business abroad is essential to growing their companies, and it’s easy to understand why: 95 percent of the world’s consumers live outside the United States.

Check out our issue brief on international trade negotiations to learn more about the policies under consideration, the process associated with their writing and passage, and how these agreements might affect your bottom line.

Whether you run a startup, small business, medium-sized company, or large enterprise, international trade could affect your future growth. We want to keep you abreast of related action in Washington and make sure you have the facts and opportunities you need to make your case to the policymakers and elected officials who will write and pass our nation’s trade agreements.

Just last week, we brought 60 business leaders—from places like Olney, Texas, and Middletown, Ohio—to the White House to share their advice with the President’s top advisors and their representatives in Congress. They talked about how exports have helped grow their companies and what barriers remain to future growth. And yesterday, Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker talked with hundreds of business leaders like you about what the federal government is doing to help boost exports and create jobs here in America.

We’ll continue to keep you informed and provide more opportunities for you to learn about international trade, among other issues, and share your recommendations and questions with Washington.
