This special twelve week course is normally only offered through G.W. University's Graduate School of Political Management so we are very fortunate to be able to bring it to you this winter and offer it at a far lower rate!


February 17- May 5, 2015

Tuesday nights, 7:00pm - 9:30pm

The Curriculum

In this twelve week course participants will be given homework assignments which will be graded and returned, including a final project to create a fundraising plan for your organization or cause. Topics covered by the instructor and special guests from industry will include:

  • Relationship fundraising and the importance of storytelling
  • How to ask for money -- even if you hate to
  • Working with a Finance Committee/Board to reach goals
  • How to prepare a budget and timeline
  • Direct mail fundraising
  • Events – and how to make them profitable
  • Telemarketing and phone scripts
  • Data management and microtargeting
  • High dollar fundraising
  • Independent expenditures/SuperPacs/Political parties
  • Campaign finance law and the history of campaign finance
  • PAC fundraising best practices for corporate and membership organizations
  • Presidential and convention fundraising
  • Internet strategies/social marketing

Participants will draft and keep for their professional use these products:

  • Major donor research
  • Event plan
  • Direct mail package
  • Telemarketing script
  • Social marketing appeal
  • Final plan (generally a 15 – 30 page project)

2015 Professional Women in Advocacy Conference

We will once again produce the conference this fall. Dates are contingent on hotel availability and we are still working on finalizing space. We have a fabulous new theme this year "The Modern Advocate" featuring lots of practical information and useful take-a ways. We are also planning to switch to a more classroom style format with instructors rather than panelists presenting in three streamlined tracks: State & Federal Government Relations, Advocacy and Outreach and Communications and Public Affairs.
