At Long Last, Mentor-Protégé Changes Proposed By SBA

The Small Business Administration (SBA) released a proposed rule expanding the 8(a) Mentor Protégé Program to all Small Business Contracting programs, including the WOSB Procurement Program. Both the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 and the FY13 National Defense Authorization Act expanded a program, which has generally received good reviews by federal agencies as well as business owners.  Expanding the mentor-protégé program brings parity to the WOSB procurement program, but the proposed rule expands it to all small business programs. WIPP testified before Congress, urging this action.  Although the Congress passed this legislation in 2010, the SBA is in charge of implementing the program.
