April 2015 WIPP National Partner of the Month:

Anne Chambers, CEO, Red212 – Cincinnati, OH

We sat down with Anne to hear a little bit more about her company and relationship with WIPP…

Tell us a little about your company and its mission.

Red212 is a small big brand agency that creates relevant human / brand connections through traditional, digital, social and emerging media.

We believe personal is powerful. We connect businesses and organizations one-on-one with the people who love them, embrace them and willingly tell random strangers about them.

We are a force for change with a commitment to enhancing the lives and experiences of our clients, our employees, our partners and all those with whom we share the planet.

Have you always been an entrepreneur?  If not, what, or who, inspired you to take this leap?

I have been an entrepreneur for most of my career.  However, I spent ten fantastic years at P&G where I learned so much about branding and also about the importance of understanding how to be relevant to your audience.  Or, as we used to say at P&G- understanding deep consumer insights so that you can create authentic relationships. Once you understand your audience, you can connect with them using whatever vehicle makes the most sense, online ads and video, event, print or whatever.

How are you engaged in your community (or state or national scene) in philanthropic or political causes?

I am actively engaged with WIPP.  I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of WIPP recently at a Women in Defense meeting. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet people that I might not have met in my normal business activities. And now I look forward to becoming actively engaged with that organization too.

I believe that business is the force we need now to address many societal issues, so I tend to stay more engaged in advocating for businesses to take the lead in things. We have so many wonderful leaders engaged in philanthropy, and we couldn’t live without them.  But for this phase in my life I have made a deliberate and perhaps controversial choice to focus on conscious capitalism as a solution. My mantra is “ Business as a Force for Change.”

Have you advocated for an issue or a cause important to you (for example:  called or written to your elected official, spoken publicly, or written an op-ed).

Yes, I am very passionate about gender parity in business.  I have a presentation that I give on this issue because it is so important and urgent.

What value/resources has WIPP brought you (training or education, member or political connections/access, awareness of policies that affect your business and its growth, Annual Leadership Meeting, etc.) that have been helpful to you?

With WIPP’s help, I met with people from Senators' Portman and Brown’s offices, both in DC and in Cincinnati. WIPP was instrumental in preparing me to meet with the Senators.  They gave me the contact information, set up the first meeting in DC, and very clearly articulated the issues we wanted to address.  This was important because we wanted to be sure that all he business leaders were speaking with a consistent voice on the issues.

The Annual meeting was incredible- a great place to meet other women business leaders and to get a close up view of what is going on from the DC perspective.  I first became aware of the Sole Source issue through WIPP, and it was that information that motivated me to get engaged in a much bigger way.
