Quick! What's Happening August 26?
by Gloria Feldt
If you said "Women's Equality Day," you'd be right. And if you said it's the 95th anniversary of the date in 1920 when women's right to vote officially entered the U.S. Constitution, you'd be spot on.

But the greater significance of this day is not about looking backward at quaint sepia photo of suffragists picketing the White House (though it is notable that the suffragists were the first people ever to picket the White House)...

When I was 11, my family visited Washington, D.C., and the absolute highlight of the trip was a tour of FBI Headquarters. I asked the guide a question that day that turned out to be quite prescient: "Can girls be FBI Agents?" His response: "No, because girls would spend all their time painting their nails."
For Girls, Why Engineering?by Lindsey Shepard
Engineers enjoy more job security, solid pay, and are in higher demand than any other profession in the US right now. Engineers are also responsible for building the world around us: from the tech that we rely on, to the bridges that take us where we need to go, to the buildings that shelter us. Because most of these things are being built by men, we literally live in a man's world. Anyone can see that this is a problem; the female perspective is important if we want to build a more balanced future.
