Funding Opportunities For Women – the Next Hurdle

by Kristie Arslan, WIPP Executive Director

Did you know that women receive only 16% of conventional small business loans or that just $1 out of every $23 is being loaned to women-owned or women-led small businesses?  With the recently released U.S. Census statistics showing the rate of growth of women-owned businesses is almost four times the rate of businesses owned by men, then why is it women are getting such a small percentage of loan dollars.

WIPP is ready to tackle this next hurdle of access to capital for women entrepreneurs.  We are heading this month to Cincinnati, OH for the first in our series of Women Accessing Capital events.  At these events, women business owners will learn about an array of financing options to grow their business – from bank loans and SBA lending program to crowdfunding and how to find an investor for your business.  The goal of this educational event series is to ensure that woman business owners walk away knowledgeable about their funding options and informed about the steps they need to take to be successful at accessing these avenues of capital.

Learn more about our upcoming Cincinnati, OH event!

WIPP continues to push for policy solutions on this issue via our platform, Women Entrepreneurs & the Need for Capital, released earlier this year.   The solutions span three main themes: changing the capital infrastructure, supporting small lending institutions, and strengthening government investment.

We ask you today to look through WIPP’s access to capital platform and share it with one other woman you know as well as your policymakers in Washington, DC.  We need your help to spread the word about this critical issue to women business owners.  Visit WIPP’s Legislative Action Center to share with your legislators today.
