Small Business Press: Mourning the Tragedy in Tucson

Weekly Update from Sam

This has been a somber week in Washington as we struggle to comprehend last weekend's horrific shooting in Tucson, Arizona. As you may know, Majority Leader Eric Cantor elected to clear the legislative calendar for the week out of respect for Representative Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of this senseless act. Instead of debating each other on the House floor, Members came together in mourning. All of America is grieving for the six citizens, including Representative Giffords' staff member Gabe Zimmerman and nine-year-old Christina Taylor Green, whose lives were taken in Saturday's attack. We are praying for those who were wounded, and we continue to be inspired by the stories of bravery that have emerged in the aftermath of such tragedy. In the words of House Speaker John Boehner, "Our hearts are broken, but our spirit is not. This is a time for the House to lock arms, in prayer for those fallen and wounded, and in resolve to carry on the dialogue of democracy.”
