Read more about Walmart's Military Promise.

At Walmart we are dedicated to honoring the sacrifices made by the men and women in uniform and by their families. We have recently announced several new initiatives to give our troops and their families the respect and honor they deserve.

We're excited to partner with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden on their "Joining Forces" military support announcement through the Walmart/Sam's Club Military Promise. You may have seen coverage of this program in outlets like Bloomberg and The Washington Post. We believe that military members and their families should never suffer career uncertainty because of a military transfer, so our Military Promise guarantees a job for all military personnel and their spouses who are current associates and are relocated. We also want associates on active duty to be able to support their families while away, so we will pay any difference in their salary if the associate is earning less money during their military assignment.

In addition to the Military Promise initiative, we're teaming up with NASCAR to develop a public service announcement (PSA) campaign that will honor military families for the sacrifices they make when our troops are called to action. The PSAs will be featured in our stores and clubs throughout the country to inspire our customers to recognize and support the needs of military families in their own communities.

And finally, we're staying true to our five-year,$10 million pledge to support military veterans with two recent grants. The Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans National Consortium received $1 million to help veterans and military families with entrepreneurship and small business training. The SCORE Foundationreceived $500,000 to assist veterans with small business startups through their new "Veteran Fast Launch" initiative.

Walmart is proud to find new ways to honor those who serve our nation, and we will continue to use our unique position in America's communities to make a difference on the issues that matter most to military and veteran communities. I encourage you to share this message with your friends and colleagues as we work together to support our military families. Also, keep an eye out for the Walmart/NASCAR PSAs in your local Walmart.
