AT&T: Supporting Communities, Improving Lives

AT&T’s work with One Economy to develop mobile applications for low-income communities, as well as our commitment in the fight against texting while driving, support our dedication to educating and improving communities.

AT&T and One Economy Announce Winners of "Applications for Good” Contest

AT&T and One Economy recently announced the winners of the national contest "Applications for Good,” which challenged software developers to create mobile device applications that would aid low-income communities in areas related to education, health, financesand the use of gaming for social benefit. The grand prize and popular prize were awarded to Brendan McBride and his colleagues from New York City for their application "Remás,” which targets immigrants and low-income families. Using web and mobile technologies, Remás provides money senders information about their options for international money transfer, as well as financial and banking advice.

The "Applications for Good” contest is part of a history of joint initiatives between One Economy and AT&T that have enabled low-income families across the nation to gain access to free or affordable broadband, along with the associated skills and training to improve their lives. "Applications for Good” is partially funded through a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

AT&T Continues Movement Against Texting While Driving

A year after launching our campaign against texting behind the wheel, AT&T announced a four

This announcement kicked off during National Youth Traffic Safety Month in May, a time when many teens are hitting the roads for prom, graduation parties, summer jobs and road trips with friends.
AT&T continues to raise awareness about the issue of texting and driving through this multifaceted initiative, which seeks to educate the general public about using wireless devices safely while driving. The company launched a 10-minute documentary, "
The Last Text,” which has received nearly 2.3 million views since its launch in December 2010.
