WIPP Leadership Advisory Council
About the WIPP Leadership Advisory Council:
WIPP’s Leadership Advisory Council includes WIPP members who are women business owners as well as thought leaders and academics with expertise in entrepreneurship, public policy, and leadership development. The Leadership Advisory Council assists WIPP in the following ways:
- Provide guidance to WIPP on policy and programming;
- Promotes WIPP to expand its network of women business owners and to educate stakeholders on WIPP policy and programming efforts;
- Represents WIPP at events and other activities, at the request of WIPP staff;
- Serves as a leadership training ground for prospective candidates for the WIPP Board of Directors, WIPP Education Foundation and WIPP International.
Opportunity:
Participation on WIPP’s Leadership Advisory Council provides numerous opportunities to WIPP Members:
- Build relationships with a fantastic group of accomplished women business leaders;
- Expand your visibility and profile as a leader in your industry and the women entrepreneurship community;
- Interact with policy makers in Congress and the Administration to create and change policy impacting women in business;
- Give back to an organization which champions women business owners, like you, every day.
Requirements:
Members of WIPP’s Leadership Advisory Council are required to possess the following:
- Maintain good standing or upgrade to a WIPP Advocacy Partner membership level ($500/year);
- Own a business with a minimum of $150,000 in average annual revenues;
- Commitment to WIPP’s mission, vision, and goals;
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges facing the women entrepreneurship community;
- Previous volunteer leadership or Board experience preferred.
Term:
A Council Member will serve a two year term on WIPP’s Leadership Advisory Board and may renew as requested by WIPP leadership.
Time Commitment:
WIPP Leadership Advisory Council Members are requested to participate at four (4) meetings per year – two in person meeting and two via teleconference. In addition, the WIPP Executive Director will communicate with Council Members as needed on projects during the course of the year.
Selection Process:
Candidates for the WIPP Leadership Advisory Council are selected and appointed by the WIPP Executive Director and Chair of the Leadership Advisory Council. The WIPP Board of Directors and other Council Members can make recommendations for prospective candidates and candidates can self-nominate. A number of factors go into the selection of Council Members including industry/business type, expertise, and WIPP programming and policy objectives.
